FAA Announces $481 Million In New Airport Upgrades

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has disbursed $481 million in infrastructure and safety grants at airports nationwide this week. 

The FAA is funding 191 grants to airports across 36 states and two territories through the Airport Infrastructure Grants program, part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, more commonly known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), which President Joe Biden signed into law in 2021. 

Some of the grant funding includes $100 million to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport for runway, taxiway and terminal reconstruction, as well as improvements in runway safety; $30.2 million to San Diego International Airport for terminal construction; and $14.2 million to Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport for taxiway construction and rehabilitation. 

“We’re investing in airport infrastructure that keeps travelers safe and airports operating efficiently,” said FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford. “These grants will help airports across the country meet the demands of today’s travelers while preparing for the future.”

As part of the Airport Infrastructure Grant program, the FAA has disbursed hundreds of millions of dollars in grant funding to airports across the nation, aiming to provide $14.5 billion in grants over a five-year period that began during Biden’s term in 2022.
