United Airlines is unlocking a little extra privacy for business class fliers.
The Chicago-based carrier has received approval from the FAA to use the sliding doors on its newest Polaris business class suites aboard select Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
Earlier this year, United launched upgraded Polaris cabins with Elevated interiors. In addition to suites with privacy doors, the new cabins feature 19-inch entertainment screens and a Polaris Studio option with 25% more space.
However, the suites’ privacy doors have been locked in place pending final approval from the FAA, with customers unable to use them.
Now, with federal regulators’ certification, United is unlocking the sliding doors for passengers at the front of the plane, according to USA Today. The doors are expected to be functional across the carrier’s new Boeing 787-9 fleet in a matter of weeks.
United expects to operate 30 of the 787-9 aircraft with Elevated interiors by 2027.
Travelers can currently find the upgraded Polaris suites on the -9 Dreamliners on routes from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Singapore Changi (SIN) and London Heathrow (LHR).
In September and October, the aircraft will also operate flights from SFO to Seoul Icheon (ICN) and Zurich (ZRH), with other international routes to follow.
