Finnair Announces Opening of Expansive New Lounge at Helsinki Airport

Finnair will kick-off July with the opening of a new lounge on the Schengen side of Helsinki Airport.

The carrier says the new lounge, which will be located near Gate 21, will offer “unparalleled comfort and convenience.”

The new space has been designed to accommodate up to 440 guests, which is about 150 seats more than Finnair’s current lounge.

There are also different areas within the posh airport lounge that have been created for specific needs, such as dining, working, resting and spending time with travel companions.

And that’s not all.

“Responding to the feedback from Finnair Plus tier members, the lounge features…an exclusive Finnair Platinum Corner for Finnair Plus Platinum and Platinum Lumo members to enjoy," Ole Orvér, chief commercial officer at Finnair, said in a statement.

The lounge's design, led by Studio Joanna Laajisto, is meant to capture the essence of the Nordics including being peaceful, natural, and inviting.

There’s also wooden textures, soft forms, and warm colors throughout the new lounge, which aim to reflect the Finnish landscape's serenity. Furniture from renowned Nordic design brands, such as Artek, Nikari, and Gubi, provides an element of local craftsmanship.

The new lounge also offers views of the Helsinki Airport’s runway and the airport gate area.

Slated to officially open on July  9, passengers with Business Class Classic and Flex tickets will have access to the new lounge. Finnair Plus Gold members will also be able to use the new Finnair Business Lounge.

But passengers without any of those memberships or tickets are not entirely out of luck. Lounge access can also be purchased as a travel extra during ticket booking, via Manage booking, or through the Finnair app, according to the airline.
