Mexican tourism officials revealed that around 119 million
people traveled on international and domestic flights last year.
According to Mexico
News Daily, Tourism Minister Miguel Torruco Marques announced the four
busiest domestic airlines were Volaris (24.3 million passengers), Viva Aerobus
(21.1 million), Aeromexico (12.2 million) and Aeromexico Connect (5.2 million).
The international market also flourished, with the United
States and Canada accounting for most of the foreign visitors. Aeromexico and
Volaris flew 12.2 million combined passengers internationally, an increase of 23.5
percent compared to pre-pandemic totals in 2019.
As for the leading airlines from the U.S. serving Mexico,
American Airlines and United Airlines flew a combined 12.9 million passengers
last year, a 41.2 percent increase from 2019. A total of 27.4 million
passengers flew from the U.S. to Mexico last year.
Another 4.63 million travelers arrived in Mexico from
Europe, a 2.3 percent increase from 2022. In addition, the Central American,
South American and Asia/Pacific regions all recorded higher totals in 2023.
The Mexican Secretary of Tourism (SECTUR) recently revealed
expectations that over 42 million international tourists will visit
the country this year, generating an estimated $32 billion in tourism
revenue.
