Dating website MissTravel.com recently surveyed more than 50,000 people to find out which U.S. airports are the happiest.
The result is a list of five airports that more often than not entertain passengers and bring them comfort in the midst of lengthy layovers and delays.
Portland International Airport tops the list of the happiest airports in America. But that shouldn't come as a big surprise considering that PDX was voted America's best airport in back-to-back years in 2013 and 2014 by Travel + Leisure's Readers' Survey.
With a plethora of local food and breweries to choose from, PDX brings the charm and allure of Portland to the terminal.
"Portland has a reputation for hipsters, but its airport makes a positive impression on all kinds of travelers thanks to quality food and shopping options and the likelihood of an on-time departure," writes Travel + Leisure's Everett Potter.
The Southeast is well represented in the list, with Georgia's Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (second) and Florida's Palm Beach International Airport (fourth) making the cut.
PBI boasts a putting green, a spa and an area for kids to play, while SAV's Savannah Square lets travelers uniwind under a large, glass-ceilinged terminal while they wait for their flight.
Meanwhile, San Francisco International Airport (third) and Philadelphia International Airport (fifth) round out the list of the happiest airports, each delivering on convenience, customer service and overall cleanliness in the eyes of respondents.
Despite experiencing a high volume of delays in comparison to other airports, SFO offers passengers a clean and modern environment to relax in. Not to mention access to free Wi-Fi services.
As for what sets PHL apart from the pack, the airport features a collection of exercise bikes.
"Traveling to and through airports is stressful for many people, and our job is to make that experience less stressful and more enjoyable," said the airport's deputy director of aviation James Tyrrell via NBCNews.com's Harriet Baskas. "This exercise equipment helps us meet that goal. And so far, response in social media and elsewhere has been off the hook."
Waiting out layovers or delays is rarely fun if you have somewhere to be, but at least there are so gems out there that make it that much easier.
