Anyone who has traveled through Portland International Airport over the years has seen the iconic green carpet featuring green, blue and pink geometric shapes, but it won't be there for very much longer.

According to FoxNews.com, the airport is ripping out the unforgettable carpets that run throughout the hallways and terminals after 30 years of service. The decision has been met with some backlash, though, as many travelers have come to love the designs.

Travelers have set up a Facebook page in support of the rugs and Twitter users have come out in droves to show their support. The colorful rugs have even spawned merchandise sold in the airport shops, as shown by KGW-TV reporter Rachael Rafanelli:

The renovations at Portland International Airport have already begun. The new rugs being installed are a darker green with red, yellow and blue designs. The new rugs even already have their own Twitter and it shared a great side-by-side comparison:

As for the diehard fans of the old rugs, the airport is distributing the removed carpeting to four local organizations. The companies will receive 1,000 square yards of carpet each to sell or provide to the community, according to the Portland International Airport's official website.

The four companies include City Liquidators, Carpet Mill Outlet, Nagl Floor Covering and Two Dogs in a Boat. Some of the businesses plan to sell large sections big enough for furnishing a home and others have the intention of making, "floor mats, coasters, and wall hangings."

If you can't fly to Portland to visit the legendary carpets before they are removed for good, maybe purchasing a large section of the rug and installing it in your home would get the nostalgia juices pumping.
