Proposed Legislation Is a Threat to Airline Rewards Points Says A4A

You might not have to count up your airline points any longer.

In fact, you might not be able to accumulate them at all.

A proposed bipartisan legislation called the Durbin-Marshall Credit Card Competition Act is threatening airline reward points, according to Airlines for America.

The proposed bill is sponsored by U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Roger Marshall (R-KS).

According to A4A, the Credit Card Competition Act "would eliminate consumer choice over which network credit transactions are routed. … The legislation would increase the cost associated with participating in these rewards programs."

There is no doubt that loyalty points for any brand associated with credit card transactions are extremely popular.

The Federal Reserve estimates that 84 percent of all Americans who have a credit card have one tied to a loyalty points program.
