Qatar Airways announced this past weekend that it will add a significant number of flights to 10 different destinations across the Middle East and Europe starting next month in an effort to meet rising passenger demand.

Beginning on May 16, the airline will begin the process of permanently increasing weekly flights to seven destinations. Those include Ta'if, Saudi Arabia; Basra, Iraq; Najaf, Iraq; Gassim, Saudi Arabia; Ankara, Turkey; Zagreb, Croatia and Athens, Greece.

Once the additions take effect, the Middle Eastern carrier, which currently flies to 146 destinations worldwide, will be operating seven flights per week from Ta'if, Zagreb and Ankara, with enhanced service to those destinations beginning on May 16, July 1 and July 3 respectively.

Qatar will permanently double weekly flights to Basra (May 16) and Najaf (June 2) from four to eight.

Meanwhile, Gassim and Athens will see increased frequencies to 10 and 21 flights weekly beginning July 17 and June 1 respectively.

"Qatar Airways is committed to developing access to a number of destinations within our network which are popular with both our business and leisure travelers," said Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker in a statement. "Our most current frequency increases in the Middle East and Europe will provide our passengers with more flexibility and choice when it comes to planning their travel for both themselves and their families."

Qatar Airways will also temporarily increase the weekly frequency of flights to Alexandria, Egypt, Salalah, Oman and Larnaca, Cyprus during the summer, with the carrier's goal being to meet holiday season demand.

Qatar service to Alexandria will climb from 10 to 14 flights weekly starting on June 1, Larnaca will feature seven weekly Qatar flights beginning on June 3 and the carrier will start operating 13 weekly flights to Salalah beginning on July 13.

Those routes will return to the regular schedule starting in mid-September with all three reverting to normal by late October.
