Low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines has announced it’s launching its first-ever flights to one of the most picturesque cities in the South. This summer, Spirit will begin flying to Savannah, Georgia, from four US cities, including Newark, Fort Lauderdale, Nashville, and Detroit.
The first of the new routes to launch will be a daily service from New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport on August 14. Later in fall, nonstop service will launch from Nashville and Fort Lauderdale on October 9, with flights running three times per week and four times per week, respectively. The following day—October 10—Spirit will launch its SAV-bound route from Detroit, which will operate twice a week.
Tickets are now available to book on all the new routes, and introductory fares can be purchased for as little as $59 one way, although some date restrictions apply. Those rock-bottom fares are also subject to Spirit’s typical fee structure in which it charges for perks like seat selection and carry-on bags.
Travelers willing to spend a little more can book into one of Spirit’s new fare classes, which are part of its recent transformation to attract more premium customers as the airline emerges from a bankruptcy period. The airline’s new Go Big fare, for example, includes a Big Front seat, one carry-on bag, one checked bag, priority boarding, and complimentary snacks and drinks, including alcoholic beverages. Its Go Comfy fare allows travelers to choose an aisle or window seat—while keeping the middle seat open—and includes a carry-on bag and small snack.
No matter what fare class travelers opt for, a trip to Savannah would be well worth planning. The city is famous for exuding southern charm, with its antebellum architecture, stately oak trees dripping in Spanish moss, its multitude of historic sites to visit, and the unique low-country nature reserves surrounding the city. Savannah is the second destination in Georgia for Spirit, which has had Atlanta on its route map since 2006.
