The 10 Airports Likely To Experience the Worst Delays This Summer

More than a few reports have predicted that between the crush of travelers, air traffic controller staffing shortages, and other industry challenges, air travel this summer is likely to be something far less than perfect.

Now, the airline industry website AirHelp has come out with an even more specific report identifying the airports where travelers are most likely to experience the biggest headaches this summer.

On Monday, AirHelp unveiled its annual world’s worst airports for summer travel list. The list ranks airports based on the number of disruptions experienced last month.

And drumroll please…..Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport tops the list of worst with an estimated 34.6 percent of flights delayed last month. The airport, which is the gateway to Sin City, is one of the busiest in the country.

But the state of Texas earned the less than flattering distinction of having three airports among the top 10 worst—Houston George Bush International came in at second worst (31.7 percent of flights delayed), while Dallas/Fort Worth International (25.4 percent of flights delayed) landed in eighth place and Dallas Love Field (22.6 percent of flights delayed) earned the ninth place slot.

Some of the other worst offenders that landed among the top 10 in the nation include Denver International in third place, with 29.6 percent of flights delayed and Honolulu International in fourth place, with 28.8 percent of flights not departing on time. Rounding out the top five worst is San Francisco International Airport, where travelers experience flight delays 27 percent of the time.

Also on the list, at number six, is Orlando International Airport, where 26.7 percent of flights did not depart on schedule last month. Yet another Florida airport, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, took the seventh slot, recording some 26.3 percent of flights being delayed last month.

More than 24 million Americans are expected to fly across the country this summer. With the popular July 4th holiday rapidly approaching, the list may come in handy if you haven’t already booked a flight.
