WHY IT RATES: Travel agents and advisors who sell clients on Mexican vacation should be taking note of the additional routes added by Delta.-Donald Wood, Breaking News Senior Writer.

Delta, in conjunction with its partner Aeromexico, will bring customers flying through its hub in the Twin Cities a new option to reach Mexico City and beyond, subject to government approval. In addition, Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport uniquely offers connections to more than a dozen cities in the U.S and Canada not available over other Delta hubs.

"We've heard from our Twin Cities customers that Mexico City is at the top of their most requested destinations and this new service will give them just that and more," said Steve Sear, Delta's President - International and E.V.P. - Global Sales. "At the same time, it allows for more choice and options for customers in many U.S. and Canadian cities through one convenient, easy connection as well as easy connections to dozens of destinations in Mexico thanks to our partnership with Aeromexico."

Service will be aboard Delta's Airbus A319 aircraft with seating for 12 in First Class, 18 in Delta Comfort+ and 102 in the main cabin. Customers will enjoy large overhead bins, access to Wi-Fi, free in-flight messaging on iMessage, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp as well as free in-flight entertainment through Delta Studio.

The new service will operate on the following schedule beginning June 8:

-Flight departs MSP at 8:50 a.m. and arrives in MEX at 1:01 p.m.

-Flight departs MEX at 2 p.m. and arrives in MSP at 6:14 p.m.

"Delta Air Lines' decision to provide direct service to Mexico City from its hub in Minneapolis-St. Paul is great news for people and businesses throughout Minnesota," said Metropolitan Airports Commission Executive Director and CEO Brian Ryks. "Mexico City is the most popular destination in Latin America lacking direct air service from MSP International Airport. On average, 700 people a day travel from MSP to Mexico. This new service and the connections from Mexico City to destinations beyond will make travel between Minnesota and locations south of the border easier and more convenient."

The new service rounds out nonstop flights operated by Delta and Aeromexico from all of Delta's U.S. hubs to Aeromexico's hub at Mexico City Benito Juarez International Airport, where conveniently timed flights give customers access to not only Mexico's largest and capital city, but dozens of destinations throughout Mexico. On a combined basis, Delta and Aeromexico offer more than 160 daily flights between the U.S. and Mexico.

Delta's Minneapolis/St. Paul hub offers approximately 400 departures every day, connecting Minnesota to the world and moving Delta customers with ease across the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia, including Tokyo-Haneda Airport, the business traveler's preferred airport located near central Tokyo. Earlier in 2018, Delta announced new service to Seoul-Incheon airport in conjunction with partner Korean Air to begin in April 2019. Additionally, Delta announced proposed service from Minneapolis/St. Paul to Shanghai to begin in 2020 subject to government approval.
