Winter is an ideal time to visit Canada, especially for adventure lovers. It may be snowing outside, but that doesn't keep anyone inside. There are many opportunities to explore the great outdoors weather by snowshoe, on skis, under the power of dogs or climbing a wall of ice-and Air Canada is just the airline to get intrepid winter wanderers to the adventure of choice.

On the Slopes

One of the most popular activities for winter travelers is skiing and the former home of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, Whistler Blackcomb, is one of the best places to undertake the sport. It is one of the largest ski resorts in North America and visitors will find a host of accommodation options from luxury hotels to cozy condos, as well as a range of activities that include skiing, heliskiing, bobsledding and more, there's enough to keep travelers busy all winter long.

Fly with Air Canada from cities around the U.S. to Vancouver where it's an easy drive up the Sea to Sky highway to connect to Whistler.

Dog Sledding

When the snow falls, the dogs run. Dog sledding is a popular activity for winter visitors to Canada and it was one of the primary modes of transportation before there were cars and snowmobiles.

Travelers will find many opportunities for dog-sledding throughout Alberta, whether it be in the metropolitan city of Calgary, the popular destination of Banff and Lake Louise or in Jasper-all of which enjoy regular air connections with Air Canada.

Northern Lights

All throughout the northern regions of Canada, travelers can see the Northern Lights. Whitehorse, Yukon, is one of the best places to view the aurora and guests can stop into the Northern Lights Centre at Watson Lake during their stay.

Yellowknife, in Canada's Northwest Territories, is another top viewing spot. The city, located in the auroral zone, features Northern Lighthouses, viewing platforms located throughout the city.

Air Canada flies to Yellowknife and Whitehorse, which are easy to reach through Calgary and Vancouver, Canada.

Stay in an Ice Hotel

Ice hotels are a rite of passage in many cold-weather locales, and in Quebec, the Hotel de Glace offers accommodation constructed from snow and ice. The hotel is located not far from Quebec City and features beds on blocks of ice, ice sculptures, artistic lighting, and even whirlpools and fireplaces.

Air Canada offers flights to Quebec City from major gateways in North American including Toronto, Montreal, New York, and Chicago.

Quebec Winter Carnival

Also in Quebec City is the Quebec Winter Carnival, which will take place February 1-17, 2019.

The carnival comes to life at the peak of winter has been celebrated annually since 1955. Visitors from around the world travel to the Quebec during the event for snow sculpture competitions, the effigy of Bonhomme, ice slides, night parades and more.
