Officials from Avis Rent a Car announced the company is cementing its commitment to customer mobility solutions by transforming 50,000 vehicles in its fleet to fully connected cars by early 2018.
The initiative will more than double the number of connected vehicles in the Avis fleet and provide travelers with increased control and convenience over their rental experience.
Avis' new connected cars will help expedite the rental experience for customers during pick-up and drop-off by providing the rental car company with real-time access to vehicle information.
Employees will now be able to determine a vehicle's maintenance needs, fuel consumption and mileage readings at the start and end of each rental.
"This investment will bring the total of connected cars in the Avis fleet to nearly 100,000," Avis Budget Group chief innovation officer Arthur Orduna said in a statement. "It will also ensure that we remain at the forefront of our industry and will bring us one step closer to realizing what we believe is the future of car rental for our customers."
