Windy weather in Jamaica caused a Carnival Cruise Line ship to ram into a pier earlier this week.
The vessel, Carnival Magic, was forced to temporarily move away from the pier in Ocho Rios at 11 a.m. on Tuesday and leave guests on shore. The ship sailed to a nearby port and picked up the passengers.
The incident occurred after “strong winds and swells caused the pier fender to collapse under pressure,” Matt Lupoli, a cruise line spokesman, told USA Today.
“There were no injuries, and all the ship's services remained operational,” he said. “The ship left the area for the safety of everyone on board, later docked at another nearby pier and guests who went ashore rejoined the ship.”
The ship was in the middle of a six-day rock music cruise that sailed from Miami on Sunday, according to the Miami Herald. Bad weather in the Caribbean also forced the vessel to skip a port call in Grand Cayman.
Ask4Entertainment chartered the 3,690-guest vessel for an event called ShipRocked 2024, which features five stages and performances by Killswitch Engage, Beartooth, Highly Suspect and Badflower.
