Guests traveling on the October 10 sailing of the Disney Treasure who have a DisneyBand+ will use wristbands instead of the line’s Key to the World Cards. The seven-night sailing is traveling to the British Virgin Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Disney Castaway Cay in the Bahamas.
Outlets reported that Disney stressed that this is only a limited test at this time, and not the beginning of an official transition to wristbands.
“For their sailing, instead of finding their Key to the World Cards outside of their stateroom, Guests with a DisneyBand+ will have their bands activated during check-in as usual,” said the cruise line in a statement. Guests without a DisneyBand+ will be issued a wearable Key to the World wristband as part of the check-in process. We are testing these new wristbands as we continue to look for ways to make your clients’ Disney cruise vacation even easier. While we try new things frequently, not all of them become part of our operation.”
At the cruise’s conclusion, guests will return the wristbands in containers at the Disney Cruise Line terminal, similar to the process that Virgin Voyages has been using. But Disney also said that the wristbands will not work at any other cruises or Disney parks.
Some staterooms require a physical card to turn on the air conditioning and lighting, and it was not clear how this will be addressed onboard.
