The Port of Galveston’s fourth cruise terminal is on track to open this fall.
The $156 million project is being led by port engineering staffers, as well as architects Bermello Ajamil and contractors Hensel Phelps and Orion Marine Services.
In November, the port will celebrate the terminal’s opening as MSC Cruises’ MSC Seascape departs for its first sailing from Galveston. The new terminal will also house Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings ships.
Crews are turning two cargo buildings into a 160,000-square-foot cruise terminal. They’re building a two-story vertical core, with elevators, escalators, stairs and a passenger ramp to connect the structures. They’re also building a new concourse that will lead to two custom passenger boarding bridges.
The project also includes a new 1,600-space parking garage, complete with a dedicated ground transportation area to accommodate buses, shuttles, rideshare vehicles and taxis. Crews are also adding new paved surface parking lots totaling 733 spaces, doing landscaping, adding a public plaza and making roadway upgrades.
Orion Marine Services is also upgrading the port’s marine infrastructure to support a 5,500-passenger cruise vessel, including new mooring foundations, bollards and fenders.
