Paul Gauguin Cruises will welcome guests as well as scientists aboard the titular Paul Gauguin for its new Wildlife Discovery Series program in partnership with Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). The guest lecturers will be Emily Darling, Associate Director of WCS Global Marine Programs, and Sangeeta Mangubhai, Director of WCS Fiji for one announced departure.
As enrichment programming becomes more and more of a differentiator among competing adventure and expedition cruise lines, Paul Gauguin is looking to up the ante with a special sailing on June 7, 2017, with said scientists onboard. Topics of discussion will include Melanesian conservation challenges and opportunities, coral reefs, climate change and WCS work in Fiji, appropriate since the voyage will sail from Bali to Fiji.
Darling is a coral reef ecologist specializing in tropical varieties in a changing climate. Her WCS coral reef monitoring program extends through Melanesia, Indonesia, the Caribbean and Western Indian Ocean.
Her research also reaches fisheries management and community ecology, and she has been published in scientific journals and has contributed to science blogs. She holds an undergraduate degree from Queen's University and earned a doctorate from Simon Fraser University.
As for Mangubhai, she has been working at WCS since 2014 with a current base at Suva, Fiji. In her role, she engages locals to be conscientious about regional resources, designs marine protected areas, assesses coral reef resilience, monitors fisheries and evaluates investments in conservation activity. Her work stretches to Vanuatu, Kiribati, Cook Islands, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Indonesia and East Africa. She holds an undergraduate degree from The University of Queensland and earned a doctorate from Southern Cross University.

Paul Gauguin Cruises' new Wildlife Discovery Series will continue in 2017 with select marine wildlife and habitat themed sailings featuring the lecture program delivered by international scientists, oceanographers and conservationists.
Also in collaboration with WCS is the Stewards of Nature educational program for those aged 7-17, as well as their families. For a nominal fee aboard summer and holiday voyages, guests can participate in the bonus interactive nature experience.
