A teenager is
going viral after writing on Reddit about following cruise rules, while their parents missed the departure of a ship while shopping.
At least somebody
was paying attention.
Ironically, prior
to the cruise, the parents warned the teenager that, if any excursions were
taken, there was a rule about being back to the ship on time before
departure.
Apparently, the
parents did
not follow their own advice as the shopping
adventure caused them to miss the ship.
The teen wrote: "They were busy shopping and
bargaining with the locals.
They missed the departure. They got a hold of me through WhatsApp.
They wanted to know why I didn't get the boat to wait for them. They ended up
having to fly to the next port from there and it was expensive. They are pissed
at me for leaving them behind."
The recent high school graduate wrote
that the parents missed the departure by 45 minutes.
Cruise
lines have explicit rules that they have a deadline to meet and cannot wait for
passengers to be back to the ship. It cannot and will not wait for stragglers
who miss the departure time.
The
teenager also wrote that the parents are "making me miserable because I left
without them" and asked commenters whether it was the right thing to do. Most
people who commented agreed with the teen.
"The docks
and ship have a schedule to keep," one commenter wrote. "They are adults and
need to be responsible for getting back on time. Which is something you have
figured out in less than six months of being an adult. At least you don’t have
to go on any more vacations with them after this."
Another replied: "Do
they think if they arrive late to the airport the plane will wait around for a
couple hours? This is not rocket science. It's a mode of transport, you get
there on time."
A similar incident occurred aboard a Norwegian Dawn sailing earlier this year in which eight passengers missed their ship departure during a private tour.
