A 66-year-old woman fell overboard during a Taylor Swift-themed cruise in the Bahamas on Tuesday.
The woman was a passenger on Royal Caribbean International’s ship Allure of the Seas. She went overboard at roughly 9:40 p.m. while the ship was 17 miles north of Nassau.
The ship was in the middle of a four-night “In My Cruise Era” voyage that departed from Miami on Monday. The fan-led trip was not affiliated with Swift. It is not clear whether the woman was traveling with the Swift group.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force led the search for the woman, assisted by the U.S. Coast Guard, which sent an HC-144 airplane and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to help.
On Wednesday, officials said they were suspending the search.
In a statement, Royal Caribbean said crew members immediately launched a search and rescue effort.
“We are also providing support and assistance to the guest's family during this difficult time,” according to the statement. “To respect the privacy of our guest's family, we have no additional details to share.”
