The Brazilian Tourist Board (Embratur)’s launch of a Visit Brasil Gallery – Amazon multisensory art and media exhibit in New York this week is symbolic of the agency’s focus on the country’s Amazon River region as diverse, sustainable and authentic while offering unique visitor experiences.

Extending through September 27, the installation will “allow visitors to discover Brazil and the riches of the Amazon through gastronomy, art, music, and knowledge about the way of life of the region's communities in a multisensory journey,” said Brazilian Tourist Board officials.

According to Embratur officials, the gallery exhibit is targeted to “entrepreneurs, tourism associations, tour operators, representatives of companies in the sector, opinion leaders [and] influencers who can “[increase the interest of international tourists and [generate] new business opportunities that can contribute to sustainable development and preservation.”

“More than 60 percent of the Amazon is in Brazil,” said Marcelo Freixo, Embratur’s president, “and its preservation is essential for life on our planet.”

Said Freixo, “The [gallery] is an initiative to present to the world the immense cultural richness of the people living in the forest, our gastronomy, crafts, visual arts [and] traditional knowledge.”

He added, “The Gallery also brings a very important message: sustainable tourism is essential to keep the forest standing. Every tourist we receive can become a spokesperson for this message.”

The United States is Brazil’s second-largest source of international visitors, with over 400,000 Americans traveling to the country in 2024. Travel to Brazil started strongly this year with Carnival celebrations and events bringing hundreds of thousands of travelers to the country.

Last year, Brazil surpassed its pre-pandemic arrivals, with approximately six million international visitors, a three percent increase over 2019 totals and a 62.7 percent increase over the 3.6 million visitors hosted in 2022.
