Often overlooked by nearby Boston, it's fair to say that Worcester, Massachusetts can't compare to Beantown in overall allure.

However, the city is undoubtedly worth the one-hour drive west from Massachusetts' capital, even if it's just for a day.

Sure, there are plenty of museums, parks and shops to explore, but you should experience Worcester less like a tourist and more like a local. Here are a few stops you'll want to make along the way.

Devour Brunch at The Hangover Pub

You don't have to be obsessed with bacon to fall in love with The Hangover Pub, though be sure to bring your appetite to this Green Street gastropub.

Recently named the Best New Restaurant in Central Massachusetts by the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, The Hangover Pub features one of the most creative menus around. Chef Michael Arrastia is whipping up brunch dishes like brussel sprout bacon hash and maple glazed ginger donuts.

Wash it all down with one of The Hangover Pub's signature Bloody Marys or many bacon-infused cocktails.

If you're really craving bacon in a bad way, order the "Man Candy" and let your taste buds thank you later.

Dance the Night Away at The Ranch

Nightlife in Worcester doesn't get any better than The Ranch. You don't have to be a cowboy or a fan of country music to have a ball here since anyone can walk in and learn the dance step by step before the beat drops.

The music is an ideal mix of old and new, the dance floor is incredibly spacious and there are plenty of beverage options at the bar to suit whatever taste.

Not quite in the mood to shake it? The Ranch offers pool and darts as well.

Sample Some Brews at Wormtown Brewery

Craft beer fans will want to check out Wormtown Brewery on Shrewsbury Street. Open six days a week, the cozy taproom boasts views of the brewery and features live music from time to time.

Be Hoppy IPA is among Wormtown's first brews and should be first on your list if not sure what to try. Bottle Rocket pale ale and Birthday Brew #7 (a hefty blonde ale at 8.5 percent alcohol by volume) are also worth a taste. The former can be purchased at Yankee Spirits in nearby Sturbridge, Massachusetts and other stores, while the latter is a taproom exclusive.

Interested in learning more about Wormtown? Brewery tours are offered all afternoon long on weekends. And if you run out of beers to try, head down the street to The Pint to sample some more local creations.
