The Caribbean has countless fabulous and unforgettable destinations.
But according to the recently released Destination Satisfaction Index (DSI) from Norstat and dp2research, there's one Caribbean island in particular that leaves more visitors satisfied than any other place, not just in the Caribbean, but in the world.
That destination is Barbados, a 21-mile long island known for its white sand beaches, high standard of living and genuine warmth and hospitality.
The ranking is based on reviews from more than 70,000 global travelers in 24 source markets who rated their trips around the world in 2017.
Travelers assessed such things as accommodations, food, and quality of beaches. They also provided feedback regarding their personal security, level of hospitality and the total cost-benefit-ratio of the trip, according to the index.
Aside from naming Barbados the most satisfying country in the world, the index named top countries by region.
In Europe, travelers said Austria was the most satisfying destination, while in Asia the top-ranked country was the Maldives. Seychelles meanwhile, took the top slot in Africa.
The index also identified the most satisfying destinations in such categories as personal security, service and hospitality, and beaches.
According to the 70,000 travelers who participated in the survey Abu Dhabi is the number one destination in the world when it comes personal security (receiving a score of 9.0 out of 10).
As for service and hospitality, travelers like Colombia the best, giving it a 9.0 out of 10.
The destination nabbing the top slot for most satisfying beaches in the world shouldn't be entirely surprising. Maldives won the honor, earning 9.3 out of 10, according to the DSI.
The Bahamas were identified as the most satisfying place in the world for business travel, receiving a 9.5 out of 10, and the Dutch Antilles took the top position for luxury travel, earning a score of 9 out of a possible 10.
