Sometimes our bucket lists are padded with beach destinations and relaxing holidays abroad, but we can't ever really escape the yearning to break out and do something adventurous. Do you have a hidden desire to summit a mountain or hike into the woods? Research says, you probably do.
In fact, as reported in US News & World Report, Virtuoso, a network of luxury travel advisors, recently cited comfort zone-busting trips as a top trend in its 2016 Virtuoso Luxe Report. And the paper has a few suggestions on where to find these adventurous treks.
First and foremost: Head to the Galapagos.
"The isolated archipelago is on many travel bucket lists, but instead of seeing the islands as part of a large group tour, join just over a dozen other travelers aboard a tall sailing ship with adventure travel outfitter Wilderness Travel," writes Erin Gifford.
The company offers 10-day small ship adventures that feature kayaking, short island hikes and snorkeling.
You can also go Nomadic in Morocco. Intrepid Travel offers this as a new adventure this year and the experience could be life altering.
"Trek Morocco's Atlas Mountains with a nomadic family. During your trip, you can sleep in a campsite and wake early to take part in daily chores, such as herding farm animals and baking bread and engage with locals in off-the-beaten-path spots," writes Gifford.
Cuba is topping the charts as a destination these days so why not enjoy a private homestay and really get up close and personal with Cuban culture and Cuban people.

US News & World Report notes that retailer Beekman 1802 is offering a weeklong trip to Cuba where travelers can stay in bed-and-breakfasts.
