A new study found that around 25 percent of people in the United States haven't visited the biggest tourist attraction in their own city.

The survey commissioned by OnePoll and Zipcar found that 23 percent of Americans have never seen one iconic landmark across the nation, with only 33 percent seeing Niagara Falls and 28 percent visiting the Grand Canyon.

In addition, seven out of 10 people surveyed have never visited the Empire State Building, while 78 percent never found their way to Washington D.C. to see the National Mall. Another 55 percent said they would like to visit a landmark and 53 percent wanted to check out a local library but couldn't find the time.

While around half of those surveyed said they were spontaneous, only around 20 percent were impulse travelers and 49 percent considered themselves a creature of habit. Of the respondents, 52 percent said they wish they could travel more.

The study also revealed the top-10 bucket-list destinations in the United States: Empire State Building, Gettysburg, National Military Park, Golden Gate Bridge, Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, New York Aquarium, One World Trade Center, Space Needle, Statue of Liberty, Yellowstone National Park.
