With the start of spring just over a week away and millions of travelers gearing up for a much-needed seasonal getaway, AAA has unveiled its list of the top 10 U.S. destinations this spring.
The rankings are based on hotel bookings at AAA.com.
Unsurprisingly, given the brutal winter much of the country is still digging out from, the list features a handful of warm weather cities and beach locales.
Orlando, Florida kicks off the list at No. 1, followed by Los Angeles and San Diego.
But the East Coast domination continues through the top eight destinations, with Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Miami; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Washington, D.C.; and New York all making the cut.
West Coast metropolises Seattle and San Francisco round out the top 10.
While each of the top spring destinations have something different to offer travelers, a majority share a common feature. They are warm this time of year and get plenty of sunshine.
According to Weather.com, the average high temperature projected for Thursday among the top 10 destinations is 71.3 degrees. Thursday's high temperature is expected to be above 70 degrees in six of the 10 cities and above 80 degrees in four of the 10.
"It's clear that travelers are seeking warm weather destinations this spring as they look to escape the cold after a particularly harsh winter," said AAA senior vice president of travel and publishing Bill Sutherland. "In addition to great domestic destination getaways, cruises, tours and vacation packages to international destinations such as Mexico and the Caribbean are also popular vacations this spring."
In addition to warmer temperatures, places like Orlando, which is home to a plethora of attractions including Universal Orlando Resort, and Los Angeles, not far from Anaheim's Disneyland Resort, offer an unrivaled combination of entertainment and relaxation.
