The Most Accessible National Parks for Visitors With Disabilities

Accessibility is a critical consideration when planning a vacation for travelers with disabilities.

And it seems a fair share of Americans do not consider the country’s national parks to be all that accessible.

In fact, an Outdoor Recreation Consumer Study conducted earlier this year by Booz Allen Hamilton found that only 39% of Americans consider national parks an accessible travel option. What’s more, 44% of the 3,000 U.S. adults surveyed for the study said they would be more likely to visit a national park if accessibility information were available online.

The good news is that a newly released analysis of Tripadvisor reviews, conducted by the prosthetics company isBrave, aims to help provide exactly that type of disability access information.

The analysis, based on filtering Tripadvisor reviews by keywords like accessible, disability, wheelchair, and mobility as well as positive, negative and neutral reviews, resulted in a list of what the prosthetic company calls the most “accessible national parks for disabled visitors.”

Here are the parks that made the list.

• Yosemite National Park, California
• Mount Ranier Nacional Park, Washington
• Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah
• Arches National Park, Utah
• Zion National Park, Utah
• Acadia National Park, Maine
• Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky
• Carlsbad Caverns National Park, New Mexico
• Canyonlands National Park, Utah
  
  

Parks that earned a spot on the list were found to have received praise for such features as having paved paths and the ability to drive to points of interest.
