Did you know that it takes two years to visit Hang Son Doong Caves in Vietnam?

That's not nearly the most incredible thing about this underground labyrinth. The caves also have their own weather system and could accommodate a 40-story skyscraper, according to an article in the Telegraph by Hazel Plush.

"Oxalis, a Vietnamese adventure travel company, is the only operator to offer trips into the caves. When it put dates up for its 2017 tours of Hang Son Doong last week, they sold out within 20 hours - and there won't be any more on sale until next year," writes Plush.

The sought-after experience is available to just 500 visitors per year. But you may need two years to become qualified enough at caving for your visit-not just anyone can tour this vast underground world.

"The caves were carved by an underground river, which still flows through the chasm. The 5km tunnel is a perilous playground for experienced cavers, with 80-metre tall stalagmites - the biggest in the world - and baseball-sized "cave pearls" (spherical calcium deposits) that litter the floor," reports Plush.

The caves are reachable by trekking through the UNESCO-listed jungle Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park and is another exciting part of the journey. The area contains some of the oldest karst mountains in Asia.
