Television is a powerful medium, as it can even influence our travel plans, makes us want to explore and see new sites, and discover new things.

‘White Lotus’ is such a show.

The highly anticipated third season moves to Thailand as its backdrop. It has inspired numerous inquiries into traveling to Southeast Asia and has even prompted Cathay Pacific Airways to conduct a sale for $50 off to select locations in the region.

The show has a promotional deal with Four Seasons hotels and has previously filmed at resorts in Italy and Hawaii.

Some other locations and television shows that had been the catalyst for travel include:

Marriott’s Phuket Beach Club – Phuket, Thailan

Marriott’s Phuket Beach Club is just steps away from one of the world’s most exotic beaches.

Emily in Paris

Talk about an inspiration, this cultural phenomenon highlighted the best of the most romantic city in the world.

The Great Barrier Reef

This show was responsible for hundreds of thousands of people visiting one of the great natural wonders of the world.

Yellowstone

Who among us hasn’t wanted to be a cowboy in the expanse of Montana after watching this?

Beverly Hills 90210

Yes, this teenage drama was a bit campy at times. But the scenes of rodeo drive alone created wanderlust in thousands of tourists.

Ken Burns

His PBS documentaries alone about baseball and the Civil War were the impetus for many to walk in the footsteps of their heroes.

The Queen and Downton Abbey

These hit shows caused many to pack up and visit England.

The Traitors

A veritable postcard for Scotland and the United Kingdom. The show is now in its third season.

The Four Sisters Boatel

Speaking of Scotland, the Four Sisters Boatel is set in the heart of Edinburgh on the tranquil Union Canal, offering guests a one-of-a-kind stay on a houseboat that captures the charm of Scotland’s historic capital.

Travel is subjective; these are just a few examples. Surely there are other locations and television shows that have been the tipping point for tourists.
