People love to listen to the ocean.
The gentle lapping water is a calming balm, and even the roar of the biggest waves at high tide are an unmistakable sound.
But did you know the sea can sing?
At least, one portion of the Adriatic in Zadar, Croatia certainly can.
The "Sea Organ" is one of the most innovative and spectacular tourist attractions in this coastal town. Designed by architect Nikola Basic, the Sea Organ is a series of stone steps that lead down to the water. But built underneath are 35 organ pipes sucking in the rush of water from the sea.
The interesting and amazing thing is, the melody changes as the intensity and volume of the waves do, kind of Mother Nature's own harmonic.
Although it sounds a tad eerie to listen to just on its own, listening as you watch the waves lap against the steps is soothing. And, at night, those same waves light up filters embedded in the stone to create a beautiful display.
