In its Summer Vacation Value Report, TripAdvisor revealed the top 50 domestic destinations for U.S. travelers based on the increase in interest from travelers booking hotels, the average cost for a one-week hotel stay and airfare.
TripAdvisor especially looked at places with the greatest increase in seasonal hotel bookings from the spring to summer 2017 on Tripadvisor.com.
As an added bonus, the study also found the least expensive time to travel to each destination this summer.
"TripAdvisor hotel pricing and airfare data show that U.S. travelers planning vacations to these popular destinations can save 40 percent on average when visiting during the least expensive summer week," said Brooke Ferencsik, senior director of communications for TripAdvisor.
"Everyone wants to make the most of their travel budget and the Summer Vacation Value Report highlights when and where to save with great value hotels. Travelers can easily find the latest reviews and lowest prices on TripAdvisor when they pick the destination and hotel that's right for them."
So which destinations are people most interested in this summer? The top 10 destinations are (surprisingly) all on the East Coast, with the exception of Montana.
Wildwood Crest, N.J., is first on the list with an average nightly hotel rate of $243 and an average domestic roundtrip flight that costs $363 per person. The least expensive week to visit is May 29-June 4.
Ocean City, N.J., is also very popular at number two. Average nightly hotel rates are around $267, and roundtrip airfare is also about $363 per person. The cheapest rates are found between May 29-June 4 as well.
Lake George, N.Y., is in third based on increasing interest. Average nightly hotel rates are a little less expensive at $188 per night, but flights are more: $494 roundtrip. The cheapest week to visit is between June 12-June 18.
Farther north, Bar Harbor, Maine, is fourth on the list with an average cost of a hotel at $237 and $570 flights roundtrip. Like most other destinations on the list, those traveling in the early months of the summer will enjoy the best prices with the lowest rates between May 29 and June 4.

Rounding out the top five hottest is Ocean City, Maryland. Its average nightly hotel rates are $291, and flights are $331 roundtrip. May 29 to June 4 are the least expensive dates to travel.
The top 10 hottest destinations also include Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.; Ogunquit, Maine; West Yellowstone, Montana.; Montauk, New York; and Cape May, New Jersey.
With the exception of West Yellowstone, traveling early in the summer will net visitors the best rates. (Aug. 28-Sept. 3 was the least expensive there.)
