There is a reason why Dubrovnik is one of Croatia's most popular tourism destination. The medieval city enchants and delights its visitors with stunning scenery and a long history as Ann Abel points out in Forbes.
"Croatia is a place unlike any other, proud of its long history and traditions, filled with grand palaces, walled cities and postcard-perfect coastal villages. It's a young country still sorting out its identity in some ways, but in others, a longstanding, distinctive local culture endures."
Abel notes that the city blends a myriad of experiences.
"Known as the Pearl of the Adriatic, it's a place that is medieval, mythical and occasionally magical," she says.
While Croatia's history only stretches back about 25 years, Dubrovnik's extends back a long way.

"Its Slavic people managed to fend off the Venetians, Ottomans and other empire builders in order to remain an independent city-state. (Eventually they capitulated to Napoleon.) An 800-year-old Gothic church and Europe's oldest pharmacy are some of the landmarks inside the 16th-century walls," writes Abel.
