On the proposal of RIU
Hotels & Resorts CEO Luis Riu, and following approval from the group’s
governing boards, members of the fourth generation of the Riu family are set to
take on new roles and responsibilities for the international RIU chain.
The generational handover began with the retirement of
Carmen Riu in July 2024. Luis Riu, the company’s CEO since summer 2024 embarked
on a new phase of the process to engage the fourth generation of the Riu family
in the company’s operations and commercial areas.
These changes come after a long training process, matching the
skills and characteristics of each family member to their new position with the
ultimate aim of strengthening the company’s leadership positions while maintaining
the balance and understanding between the family and its professional executives,
a 70-year feature of the company.
New company positions and responsibilities include:
Roberto Riu Rodríguez (31), continuing his
involvement in the Hotel Design and Construction Department and, as Managing
Director, will take on responsibilities in the Corporate Sales and Marketing
area, overlooking company destinations.
Naomi Riu Rodríguez (32), RIU Group’s current
Financial Director will also be responsible for Procurement in EMEA and
Corporate Social Responsibility. She has been appointed Managing Director and
will join Operations for hotels in the Indian Ocean (Zanzibar, Dubai, Sri
Lanka, Maldives and Mauritius), as well as RIU Plaza hotels in Madrid, London
and Dublin.
Luis Riu Rodríguez (33) continues his involvement in
the Hotel Design and Construction Department and, as Managing Director, will
take on responsibilities in Operations for the Atlantic Region (Spain,
Portugal, Cape Verde, Morocco and Senegal) along with responsibility for the
Group’s Corporate Engineering and Maintenance area.
Lola Trian Riu (40), will leave her position as
Director of Sustainability to manage the Riu family’s philanthropic funds,
enabling her to apply her ample experience to professionally manage relations
with the various organizations and foundations benefitting from these funds
every year, including the Fundación Joan Riu.
Joan Trian Riu (41), already a member of the
Executive Committee, will join Operations as Managing Director for hotels in
the Americas (Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Panama,
Aruba and the Bahamas) and RIU Plaza hotels in the USA, Toronto, Guadalajara,
Panama and Berlin. He will also continue as the company's institutional
representative and retain responsibility for departments currently under his
supervision.
Luis Riu will continue as sole CEO and directly
manage Expansion, Hotel Design and Construction as well as Corporate Product
Design and supervising the entire company.
