AMSTERDAM — From the main stage of a sold-out 2026 event in Amsterdam, the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) has officially announced that its flagship River Cruise Expo will return to Vienna, Austria, for 2027.
Scheduled for March 10–14, 2027, the event is poised to become the largest in the organization’s history. Registration opened immediately following the announcement, and it is expected to sell out once again.
Expanded Capacity and Ship Inspections
The 2027 Expo will feature at least 13 river cruise brands and a minimum of 17 ships will be docked in Vienna for the event. The event offers advisors more opportunities than ever to compare hardware and luxury levels side-by-side.
"ASTA’s River Cruise Expo provides travel advisors with a unique opportunity to experience the best of European river cruising firsthand," ASTA said in the announcement. "The five-day event brings together advisors and leading brands for immersive education, ship tours, and industry networking in one of Europe’s premier destinations."
Building on their high-profile entry into the sector, Celebrity River Cruises has signed on to return as the Title Sponsor for a second consecutive year. While they won’t have a ship docked just yet, as the Celebrity Compass will official debut in August 2027, their presence is key as the brand enters the market with many new offerings.
Additionally, the 2027 Expo will welcome Century Cruises to the event for the first time, further diversifying the range of products available for inspection.
The "Vienna Experience" for Advisors
Returning to Vienna, a central hub for Danube River cruising, allows for an expanded educational curriculum. The event will include:
- Ship-Board Education: Intensive sales training and product seminars conducted on participating vessels.
- Immersive Networking: A dedicated trade show and multiple networking receptions.
- FAM Opportunities: A robust lineup of post-Expo FAM (Familiarization) sailings to allow advisors to experience the sailing product in real-time.
- Vienna Sightseeing: Organized tours designed to help advisors better sell the destination of Vienna itself to their clients.
VIP Access Returns
Due to high demand in previous years, ASTA will again offer a limited number of VIP Admission packages. These "premium" tickets include:
- Priority access to select accommodations and dining.
- Advanced booking windows for post-Expo FAM sailings.
- Preferred seating during General Sessions and a dedicated VIP check-in.
- Access to an exclusive VIP reception.
With the 2026 event in Amsterdam reaching capacity months in advance, industry experts expect the Vienna 2027 registration to move quickly.
