Airbnb Removes NYC Igloo Listing in Wake of Winter Storm Jonas

While Winter Storm Jonas has crippled travel across much of the East Coast, it nearly resulted in a significant payday for a Brooklyn man who built an igloo outside his home and listed it on Airbnb for a hefty $200 per night.

Unfortunately, the short-term rental service removed the listing, ruling that it didn't meet the company's occupancy standards.

The creator, Patrick M. Horton, described the unconvential accommodation as a "Boutique Winter Igloo for 2," adding on Twitter that at least three people contacted him about the listing before it was deleted.

Horton posted a photo of the igloo on Twitter Sunday.

But only a few hours later Horton revealed that Airbnb shut down the listing.

Got shut down by @Airbnb for not meeting occupancy standards. Though they were nice enough to tell us that it looked very well constructed.

It wasn't long before the Internet got word of Horton's igloo.

I would like to thank all the blanket-forts that gave me practice for this igloo as a child. Much appreciated. Today has been a wild ride.

While Horton deserves credit for his imagination and effort, in this case $200 seems quite steep for a snow-covered shelter you'd have to crawl into, especially considering Airbnb users can rent an igloo for four in Austria for as little as $59 per night.
