Virgin Galactic Holdings announced plans to launch its second
commercial space flight next month after completing a successful inaugural journey
in June.
According to Reuters.com,
Virgin Galactic is working toward a second launch window opening on August 10,
with details regarding the flight crew, pilots and the manifest for the mission
being announced at a later date.
The space tourism company also revealed the Galactic-02
mission would be live-streamed on Virgin Galactic’s website. Officials said
that around 800 customers have booked a trip to the edge of space, with
travelers paying between $250,000-$450,000 per seat.
Virgin Galactic previously announced plans to build a fleet
large enough to operate at least one flight per day, making it one of the
biggest players in the growing commercial space travel market.
In June, VSS Unity transported a three-man crew from Italy
and three Virgin Galactic crew members more than 50 miles above the New Mexico
desert on a brief suborbital ride, marking the company's first successful flight
of paying customers to the edge of space.
The 75-minute adventure concluded when the spacecraft glided
to a successful landing at Spaceport America near Truth or Consequences, New
Mexico.
