Travel agencies are a critical part of the travel experience, providing invaluable expertise and guidance.
While the role of agencies may be evolving with technology, the knowledge and insight they offer is more critical than ever at a time when the amount of information available online to travelers is overwhelming.
During the fourth annual Travvy Awards Wednesday night at New York's Gotham Hall, the travel industry honored its own, including recognizing the top travel agencies.
The award winners were selected by working travel agents who have direct knowledge about each and every company nominated.
Avoya Travel took home the gold award for Best Host Agency and also Best Host Agency Website, while Nexion received the silver in both categories.
Avoya is one of the most-awarded host agencies in the business. An American Express Travel Representative, Avoya traces its roots back more than 50 years to a Hawaiian travel company owned by the Andersons.
The company is known for offering the first travel leads program-Live Leads, through its patented technology, Agent Power. Avoya also offers an Agency Marketing Platform (AMP), a fully-integrated web-based program, that no other host or franchise offers.

Nexion was established in 1995 and has blazed its own trail in the travel industry as a leading host agency. The company is known for innovative strategies, extensive training programs, webinars, and more.
The Niche Agency of the Year award was also announced during the Wednesday night ceremony. The award was given to VIP Vacations Inc. and its President Jennifer Doncsecz.
