The Wildlife of Xcaret

Jaguars, turtles, birds oh my! All of these creatures and more call Xcaret home. You and your family are able to see, and in some cases interact with, the animals for yourselves when visiting the park.
In between all the exciting adventures like Children’s World and snorkeling, be sure to visit the various species that reside in the natural environment of Xcaret.
Jaguar Island
In the Mayan culture, jaguars are a symbol of leadership, power and war. Admire these wild animals from a close distance during your visit to Xcaret. You’ll find them located on an island in the park surrounded by rivers. Enjoy this uniquely close, but safe, encounter with the largest cat roaming the American continent.
Wild Bird Aviary
Close your eyes and open your ears–you’ll hear the beautiful voices of various bird species. Your visit here aids in the continuing research on these beautiful creatures, some of which are endangered. From toucans and parrots to eagles and scarlet macaws, the many colors intertwine to make a gorgeous area to visit.
Marine Turtles
The turtles are considered the “ancient species in Xcaret Park.” The park offers programs to allow visitors a better look at their characteristics and behaviors. Join in the conservation efforts, all while learning about these fascinating animals.
Monkey Island
Who doesn’t love monkeys? They are fun and always entertaining to watch. Located across from Xcaret Nature Park is where Monkey Island is located. Enjoy seeing the spider and howler monkeys frolic around in their natural setting. Similar to some of the other species in the park, these two species of monkeys are endangered. Each visit to Xcaret helps to protect them.
At an additional cost, visitors can get even more up close and personal by swimming with the sharks, encountering stingrays and interacting with dolphins. Check out these additional aquatic activities and see which ones you’d be up for during your visit.
