Few all-inclusive resorts in the Riviera Maya lean into their natural surroundings quite like Sandos Caracol Nature Resort & Water Park. Set amid jungle, mangroves and the Caribbean coast in Playa del Carmen, the 955-room property positions itself as an eco-resort first, and it largely delivers on that promise.

The headline draw for families is the outdoor water park, which packs 29 slides into a single complex. Options range from steep kamikaze drops for thrill seekers to gentle runs for younger children, with separate sections for kids and adults plus lagoon-style cascades, interactive features and a refreshment bar. A main pool with water volleyball keeps the energy high, while quieter pools offer a retreat for guests who would rather read than race.

What sets Caracol apart, however, is its All-Nature Experience. More than five natural cenotes dot the grounds, and guests can join upward of 10 eco-activities, including mangrove tours, jungle walks and a Mayan river boat ride where resident howler monkeys are the main attraction. The resort counts more than 30 animal species on property and has taken in rescued wildlife, giving it the feel of a small nature reserve. Solar power and water treatment systems help reduce its environmental footprint.

Accommodations span standard rooms, spacious villas and penthouse suites, with up to five family room configurations. Couples and adults traveling together can opt for the Select Club, an adults-only section with its own pool, restaurant, beach club and private check-in.

Dining covers plenty of ground: El Templo for Asian teppanyaki, Fogo de Brazil for rodizio, Los Lirios for steak and seafood, La Toscana for Italian, La Riviera for Mediterranean and El Nido for tacos, alongside Mexican and international buffets. Evenings bring the Teatro del Pueblo show program, highlighted by the pre-Hispanic Sacred Fire Ceremony, while a supervised kids club gives parents some downtime.
