Tours for First-Time Visitors to the Dominican Republic

ALG Vacations asked a pro what to do when travelers are heading to the Dominican Republic for the first time.

Amstar DMC, one of the Caribbean's leading destination management companies, shared several recommendations, including a VIP trip to Saona Island.

The catamaran cruise to Saona Island includes a 50-minute ride on a catamaran, drinks onboard and a meal on the shore with sparkling wine and a beautiful buffet. The relaxing journey concludes with a speedboat ride back to Bayahibe.

Visitors can also take a tour of the capital on the Santo Domingo City Tour. During the tour, guests see the American continent’s very first cathedral, Christopher Columbus’ family fortress, and enjoy a traditional Dominican meal at a restaurant.

For the adventurous, there is the Wild Tiger Buggies tour. Guests can tear through trails, racing through rice fields, rolling hills, jungles, and back roads on open-air all-terrain vehicle. A highlight is a stop at a cave for a swim. In addition, guests adventure to villages and stop at a working plantation and learn about coffee and chocolate production.

The Scape Park Full Day excursion takes visitors to this Punta Cana eco park. Highlights here include spelunking in Iguabonita Cave and the Hoyo Azul sinkhole. There are also ziplines, a mountain bike tour, a cultural route and more.
