Dear Tammy: How often should I check in with past clients who I haven't heard from in a while? I want to keep in touch but don't want to bother them. Thanks!

Tammy: Great question! Keeping in touch with previous clients is a great way for you to get the repeat travel business that can give you a steady stream of income. And you're right for feeling the way you do. You want to check in with them on a regular basis, but you also don't want to come across as annoying, desperate or bothersome, so it's definitely a fine line when it comes to checking in with past clients.

One of the most important things you need do when reaching out to past clients is to make sure that you come across as someone who really cares, and you should! When you treat your clients like they are your only client, it makes them feel special, which means they are much more likely to come back to you when they're in need of travel services, over and over again.

Now, know that setting goals as well as updating goals is a constant in the travel industry, and includes figuring out a plan for how to deal with past clients who you haven't heard from in a while.

The following are some great ideas that can help you keep in touch with your past clients.

-Send Cards. Send them an occasional card, which will keep you in their thoughts and isn't invasive. This can be a birthday card, a holiday card or any kind of card that you think that they will enjoy receiving.

-Send Gifts. Sending a small and thoughtful gift to previous clients will let them know how much you appreciate them, and their business. Gift examples can include things like theater tickets, specialty food items, etc.

-Travel Parties. Host a travel party and invite all of your clients. This is a super fun way to get everyone together to discuss their previous and future travel plans. Be sure to have some travel specials ready to present!

-Newsletter. Make sure every single one of your clients is part of your newsletter base.

There are many options available so you don't lose a sale, and keeping in touch with your past clients is definitely one of the best things you can do when wanting to improve your bottom line. Good Luck!
