If hectic security checkpoint lines, overpriced restaurants and crowded gates are among your least favorite aspects of traveling, then you'd be wise to minimize your time spent at the airport in 2025.

Fortunately, there are many tips and tricks to do just that.

The standard recommendation is to arrive at the airport 90 minutes to two hours before a domestic flight and three to four hours before an international trip. However, seasoned travelers know this is rarely necessary.

There are some easy and affordable ways to avoid wasted time.

You can download the free MyTSA mobile app to view the estimated wait times at security checkpoints ahead of your arrival to get a better idea of how much time you'll want to leave yourself.

Enrolling in TSA PreCheck or the ever-expanding CLEAR is another easy way to simplify your airport experience, cut down on your time spent in line and avoid having to remove clothing items and belongings from your luggage that can add to pre-flight stress levels.

According to TSA, "about 99 percent of TSA PreCheck passengers wait less than 10 minutes." That's largely been my experience as well even when traveling at busier periods.

If you're planning on parking at the airport you'll of course want to give yourself more time whereas using a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft allows you to see roughly when you'll reach the terminal with bags in hand.

Checking baggage will require a bit more time while traveling with carry-on luggage only will shave extra seconds and minutes off of the process.

Booking your flight for a mid-week and early morning departure is another great way to minimize the likelihood of a delay or cancellation and give yourself more leeway when it comes to getting through the checkpoint and navigating the crowds on the way to your gate, reducing your time spent at the airport without inciting panic.

Ultimately, if you're like me and your singular goal is to be at the gate when boarding begins—typically 30 to 50 minutes before takeoff—there are numerous ways to ensure that you arrive right on time without having to kill any at the airport.

You'll only get more confident with experience so start implementing these tips and tricks today to start shaving down your travel time until you discover the perfect formula that works for you.
