KLM Karaoke Would Actually Be A Great Idea

They say that music soothes the savage beast, but can it tame an irritated or anxious airline passenger?

Dutch national carrier KLM found out the fun way.

The airline conducted a humorous April Fool’s joke, asking passengers to participate in a karaoke sing-a-long. Initially, it sounds silly and sophomoric, but KLM might be on to something here.

In retrospect, it’s a great idea and can help drop the stress level.

Between drinking, a general fear of flying, anxiety, crying babies and more, flying can sometimes be a challenging experience. Now, imagine singing along to ‘YMCA’ or some other catchy tune.

Next thing you know, you’ve gone from Los Angeles to Dallas in what feels like a heartbeat. It’s just one way to lighten the tension.

It doesn’t mean you have to put someone on the spot to sing solo karaoke, as a group singing would do the trick. Hand out a copy of the lyrics; you’re off and running.

It will be up to the airlines to monitor consumer reaction, but the premise holds promise.

Airports can be a horrible experience for some, and the plane ride is no picnic either. Short of embarrassment, anything that can be done to alleviate the stress is welcome.

The idea of airplane karaoke is basic, fun, and free and will help keep the kids occupied for a little bit. You can even mix in a verse of ‘The wheels on the bus.’

Yes, it would be just like The Wiggles in the air.

Airlines need to create a better experience for the flying public without passing on the cost. What was a harmless April Fool’s joke could develop into something here.

Participation is not mandatory.
