Will US Tourism Actually Rebound in 2026?

“All eyes are on the United States right now” is a phrase I’ve heard quite a few times to start 2026.

My first thought has usually been, well, yeah, they typically are. No matter who is President, the world is constantly watching what the United States does and does not do.

The beginning of 2026 is no different, and the actions taking place are once again having an impact on the country’s tourism.

But with massive events on the horizon, the question I can’t stop thinking about is will US tourism actually rebound in 2026?

International travelers held off on visiting the US in 2025, which was not the expectation when the year began. But then came the tariff talks and the beef with Canada, and the damage was done.

2026 can tell a different story, and events are the key.

America celebrates its 250th birthday this summer, which has destinations around the country planning for big gatherings. Plus, July 4th is on a Saturday this year, so the belief is that many Americans will be planning summer vacations around it.

That will be all well and good for domestic tourism numbers, but the recovery for international traveler numbers rests primarily on the World Cup.

There are 11 US stadiums serving as host locations for the mega event in these great cities: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle.

From June 11 through July 19, these cities will see an influx in visitors. Prices for seemingly everything will no doubt be higher this summer than before. After all, places will feel the pressure to make up for being down in 2025.

I know many Americans will be traveling for some of these, but how many in attendance will be international tourists?

The expectation is for over 1 million tourists to visit. Tourism Economics estimates the World Cup could account for one in three additional foreign visitors to the US in 2026.

Given the current events happening in the US right now, will that number hold?

I don’t have the answers, but I certainly hope things turn around and the US tourism economy rebounds.

What do you think will happen?
