Southwest Will Soon Be in All Five LA-Area Airports Once Southwest planes begin taking off from Long Beach Airport, the low-cost carrier will have a presence at all five commercial hubs in the LA area. At Long Beach it will be competing with its main low-cost rival, JetBlue, which is one of the main tenants.
Alaska Air Adds More Intra-California Service to San Jose Alaska Airlines has announced two new routes between San Jose and Southern California. The airline will fly from San Diego and Orange County. Alaska considers San Jose a kind of focus city. It has offered flights from there to Hawaii and Los Angeles since 2010.
Airlines Upgrading O'Hare Lounges Airlines are competing for elite fliers at Chicago O'Hare. American is increasing the size of its Flagship Lounge, which is reserved for first-class international passengers only. Not to be outdone, United is revamping its food menus at lounges all around the world. The goal is to give the biggest spenders the best possible place to wait for their flight.
Southwest Plane Clipped at Detroit Metro A Southwest Airlines flight was hit in the tail by a Dallas-bound American Airlines plane as it was being de-iced in Detroit. Luckily, no one was injured.

A former Alaska Airlines pilot has pled not guilty to the charge of flying while drunk. The pilot, David Arntson, allegedly flew a 2014 commercial flight between Oregon and California while under the influence.
Southwest Airlines will share some its 2015 profits with its employees. The airline will pay out $620 million of its profits to its employees as part of its profit-sharing scheme.
Orlando Sanford-based National Airlines will soon expand the number of flights between its hub and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The young airline already flies to Puerto Rico two days per week. It will add two more flights on this route by March 16.
