New data shows that while 61 percent of Americans plan to
take a summer vacation, 69 percent still need to book their trip.
According to research from Skyscanner, 74 percent of
travelers in the United States feel confident they know how to find the best
vacation deals, but the company launched a Savings Generator tool to ensure
they get the most bang for their buck.
Skyscanner’s Savings Generator searches over 80 billion
prices every day to find ways to save money for travelers. Data showed that travelers
could save an average of 31 percent by hitting the road during the last week of
summer compared to the first, meaning an average saving of $1224 for a family
of four.
The research also showed that travelers could save up to
five percent on the cost of July and August flights, with 73 percent of
respondents saying they’d be willing to change the dates of their summer
vacation to save money.
“We know how much U.S. travelers look forward to and
research their summer vacations, this year more so than any,” Travel Trends expert
Laura Lindsay said. “It’s therefore our duty to analyze all the data we have
access to and share this insight via our Savings Generator, updated for Summer
2023, so travelers know how to make their money go further this summer.”
Of those yet to book, 43 percent cited they’re still
deciding on dates and 42 percent are waiting to find the best deals. Another 82
percent would be tempted to book a further summer holiday this year if the
price was right.
U.S. travelers who said they have yet to book their summer
trip are planning for flights to cost $223 per person on average, but Skyscanner’s
algorithm can help them find the cheapest deal.
