With airfares on the rise, travelers can expect to pay a little more for flights in 2023. However, a select few flights stand out in terms of cost and are likely only accessible to the tiny group of travelers with seemingly bottomless budgets. Germany's newest airline ALPEN AIR, which offers public scenic flights over the Alps, has released a study of the most expensive first-class flight tickets. Based on a comprehensive worldwide analysis of ticket prices for first-class seat tickets, the airline revealed the five nonstop roundtrip routes with the most perks but the biggest price tag right now. Here are the five most expensive first-class flights available in 2023.

Virgin Atlantic's 11-plus-hour-long transatlantic flight from London's Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Los Angeles (LAX) is tied for the fourth-most expensive first-class ticket coming in at a hefty $22,000. That cost comes with extra perks, however, as the carrier's elite customer experience features fully flat beds, a la carte dining, access to social spaces such as lounges and bars and Clubhouse access prior to boarding.

First-class passengers flying on Cathay Pacific's London (LHR) - Hong Kong (HKG) route will spend more than half of a day (12.5 hours) in the sky each way at a cost of $22,000. While expensive, Cathay Pacific's first-class experience promises the softest bed in the sky, selections from an award-winning onboard cellar and a state-of-the-art inflight entertainment system, among other highlights.

Korean Air operates its Airbus A380 between New York City (JFK) and Seoul, South Korea (ICN) with first-class tickets climbing as high as $28,000 or $29 per minute. Customers with deep pockets can look forward to a slew of in-flight entertainment to help pass the time on the nearly 16-hour-long flight as well as plenty of privacy and cozy seats that can recline for sleep with just the touch of a button.

Emirates' most exclusive passengers can fly from L.A. (LAX) to Dubai (DXB) and back again for a price tag of $31,000. The nearly 16-hour-long flight on Emirates' Airbus A380 checks in at $32 per minute but includes access to a special spa bathroom with exclusive soaps and creams as well as a fully equipped wellness shower. Passengers can even have their flight attendant turn their flight suite into a fully-fledged sleeping space to ensure they arrive refreshed.

The world's most expensive one-way airline ticket will set travelers back about $66,000. The reward is a first-class seat on Etihad Airways from New York City (JFK) to Abu Dhabi (AHU). The 12.5-hour flight winds up costing passengers about $88 per minute. There are perks though, including a 430-square-foot suite on the upper deck of the Airbus A380 featuring a separate bedroom including a queen-size bed and a private bathroom as well as chauffeur service to the airport and permanent assistance from a personal butler.
