What's New in Chattanooga in 2019

This southern Tennessee city has a slew of new, so grab a biscuit and take note. Already a city with a hefty patio scene, it only makes sense that they add more. (We're not mad about it.) From shiny new food joints to newborn breweries, and developing neighborhoods, Chattanooga is growing in a great way. The Signal is booking acts as a new music venue, taco trucks are expanding into restaurant space, and new digs are amping up the hotel scene. Check out these 12 new and notable spots in the Scenic City. Disclaimer: don't read if hungry.

The hotel scene just became a ton more fun. The new Moxy hotel showed up in a big way, infusing a vibe that's equal parts trendy and playful, while walkable to most hotspots. Perhaps aimed towards the Millennial crowd, lodgers of all ages are enjoying the affordable stay with tidbits of joy around every corner. A jar of sour patch kids and spicy snack mix live on the lobby bar, games abound (think shuffleboard and giant Jenga), and, if you're lucky, an over-sized stuffed unicorn will greet you in your room.

A recent addition to the southside, Kenny's sandwich shop is now rollin' out legit between-biscuit fare (and other carbs) giving us a reason to thank Ken over and over again. Tip: try the apple butter, you won't regret it.

Once a railway manufacturing building, this brand-spankin' new brewery offers affordable (most are $5) brews with fun names, like 'Squatch Watch'. Not only that, Naked River has BBQ food and a dog-friendly patio. And, because dessert is the best, they've created two sweets-inspired beers with their cannoli stout, as well as one near and dear to the city itself; the MoonPie stout. For an overdose on MoonPies (in the best way possible) wash it down with the fried MoonPie on their menu.

The sculpture fields aren't super new, as the park has a long history. However, since re-opening in 2016, it's having a revitalizing moment. Visitors can now stroll through giant sculptures and practice art appreciation 101 at Montague Park, marveling at the larger than life artwork.

No confusion about it, this new outdoor eatery and bar is a fun spot for brunch and everything in between. State of Confusion has a uniquely cool history, as it used to be a junkyard/furniture thrift shop called 'A State of Confusion' (see what they did there?). A full ceviche menu is just one of the highlights at this cooler than cool hangout joint. The refurbished furniture, fire pits, and open-air space give it a hip vibe, which obviously makes you hip too, by default.

This recently renovated park space is a grand addition to the Chattanooga outdoor space. How to make a park better? Add room on the road and hookups specifically for food truck vendors, a jammin' stage area, and throw in a summer Friday night event called Nightfall where you can drink adult beverages in the streets, and you've got yourself a winner.

Still new-ish, Wildflower Tea Shop & Apothecary is serving blends creatively curated by owner Hillary Libby, and tailored to your needs. Talk about one-on-one customer service. With about 100 different herbs in shop, the options are almost endless for blending on the fly. Want to balance out your nervous system? No problem. Need something soothing for the ole throat? Done. Newly gracing the menu is the popular "harmony blend", something Hillary put together for her own stress relief needs. Oh, and you can get any drink as iced, to boot.

London's calling and we're here to answer. This speakeasy has a fun entrance that we won't spoil here, and quite possibly the best "behind the bar" decor ever. London Calling has an inventive craft cocktail menu and, as an unexpected twist, a full page of hotdog options available for those hungry drinkers. Try the 'Pimm's Pot' to share (or not) with friends, or gage your drink choice with the "adventurous/boozy/bold" scale on the menu depending on your level of tipsy cravings.

Just behind the famous Chattanooga Choo Choo building is a beer garden style turf tuft next to a vintage train car. Yeah, it's that cool. American Draft isn't your run-of-the-mill train car drinkery though. Designed as a pour your own beer place, you're getting history mixed with modern amenities. Tip: the inside is just as chic as the outside.

Hope you packed your fancy pants because Bridgeman's Chophouse inside the new Read House Hotel will make you feel olde-timey sophisticated just for walking in. Not to worry, no bowtie needed, as this steakhouse is casual classy and dishing up some serious meat. In addition to the obvious steak section on the menu, their seafood options are delectable as well. And the house rolls with homemade honey butter is so good you'll be in danger of filling up before the main meal. Worth it, though.

New, and conveniently situated right behind the Moxy, Wanderlinger Brewing Company is serving up a diverse selection of brews from their wood stick taps (how fun!). With an outdoor patio, indoor dart board, and a performance stage for live music, you shan't be bored at this happenin' new brewery.

The new Edwin Hotel in the Bluff View section of Chattanooga sees outdoor patios and elevates them, literally, with an epic rooftop bar. Whiskey Thief's vista sprawls over the river and the famous Walnut Street pedestrian bridge. Saddle up to one of the cozy couches, or grab a table on the edge to sip and soak in the southern scene.
