Compagnie du Ponant, the world's only French-flagged cruise company, has opened a U.S. sales office in Miami and hired cruise veteran Terri Haas as chief commercial officer. The line operates three vessels -- the three-masted Le Ponant, the Le Levant yacht and the ice-class expedition ship Le Diamant -- which sail to ports in Europe and the Caribbean, as well as more remote areas like Greenland, Antarctica and the Maldives. The line's newest vessel, the 466-foot mega-yacht Le Boréal, will be christened in May; its sister ship, L'Austral will debut in May 2011. The line's North American sales office is located at 2 Biscayne Blvd., Ste. 2000, Miami, Fla. 33131.
For 2010, the four ships will visit more than 240 ports. Compagnie du Ponant will visit 22 ports in Italy, 14 in Greece and the Greek Islands, and 12 ports and islands along the Dalmatian coast, including many inaccessible to larger ships. All vessels are equipped with Zodiac fleets. Currently sailing in the Indian Ocean around the Maldives, the Le Ponant will offer Mediterranean itineraries from May through October, calling at ports in Italy, France, Greece and Croatia. Le Levant sails the Caribbean during winter and heads to the Mediterranean in April. Through October, its Mediterranean sailings visit ports in Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey. Le Diamant has just finished its Antarctic itineraries and is cruising up the coast of South America, where it will transit the Panama Canal on its way to the Caribbean. After crossing the Atlantic, the ship will offer cruises in the Mediterranean from April through June before heading to the Baltic and then on to Iceland and Greenland. Le Diamant returns to the Mediterranean in mid August through October, and then heads to Asia for the winter. Le Boréal will be christened on May 3 in Marseille and will sail in the Mediterranean in May and June and head to the Baltic, returning to sail around Greece, Turkey and Italy from mid August through the end of October.
