The ebb and flow of consumers' love of travel agents is a hot topic these days. Articles love to love them and frequently tout travel agents' demise. Regardless of what the Internet says, travel agents are here to stay and Boston Globe writers Diane Bair and Pamela Wright have composed an article that perfectly defines why and when a travel agent is a useful resource.
In the article frequent travelers Heidi and Rich Meier tell the Globe:
"We're not into organized tour groups. We like to go it alone, and often without a set itinerary."
But they may have changed their tune about doing the legwork for vacations after their most recent trip.
"It was the most relaxing vacation we've ever had," Meier said. "We still had privacy, but all the piddling details were off our plate. And the agent suggested and booked things we had no idea we could do."
Matthew Upchurch, CEO of Virtuoso, also weighed in in the article.
"Studies have shown that the satisfaction of online booking has steadily been going down, while the use of travel advisors has been going up," Upchurch told the Boston Globe.
