To combat the cabin fever that can set in during long-haul flights, Airbus is working on a couch-style seating layout in business class, dubbed the Settee Corner chair.
According to CNN Travel, the Settee Corner chair was revealed as part of a presentation at the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2019 (AIX) in Hamburg, Germany, which has created a buzz among aviation enthusiasts.
The couch-style seating will allow business class travelers to kick up their feet and relax on their own or have another passenger join them for some tandem in-flight entertainment. The Settee Corner also makes it easier than ever to lay down and fall asleep during a flight.
Airbus teamed with seat manufacturer Geven to develop the design, which used the concept on an economy class three-seater configuration and transformed it into a lightweight and luxurious business class prototype.
With Airbus promoting the A321 long-range planes, the need for more comfortable seating options is at a premium. The Settee Corner would be 30-50 percent lighter than traditional business class seats and its three-seater configuration would make adding it to existing aircraft less of an issue.
The business class amenities will remain unchanged besides the seating arraignment and includes a personal television, storage space, overhead lockers and a tray table for drinks and meals.
